Message from the Honourable Jason Kenney, Premier of Alberta

On behalf of Alberta’s government and the people of Alberta, welcome to the Global Energy Show!

This year’s exhibition and conference are particularly important as the demand for secure, reliable and affordable energy continues to grow. Bringing leaders from across Canada, North America, and the world together to collaborate and explore new opportunities is more important now than it has ever been – and we’re excited to welcome you with our signature western hospitality.

This is an exciting time in Alberta. Last June, we launched Alberta’s Recovery Plan, a bold, ambitious plan to build, diversify and create jobs. That means building on our strengths, like our critical energy sector, diversifying our economy by harnessing innovation and new technologies, and taking advantage of emerging opportunities like hydrogen.

Technology and innovation are essential to push us forward, and Alberta is a province of passionate innovators. Alberta’s government is helping unleash our province’s research and innovation excellence so our innovators can continue to make groundbreaking discoveries and commercialize the solutions the world needs. Alberta’s Recovery Plan is part of that, creating one of the most competitive business environments in Canada, and the world.

We are also working hard to ensure that, as we further strengthen the backbone of our economy, we are creating a more diversified future. Alberta is demonstrating our entrepreneurial spirit and innovation through value-added natural gas and minerals strategies, a new petrochemical incentive program, legislation that supports geothermal development, our hydrogen roadmap, exploring small modular reactors and more. Combine all of this with our well-established record of responsible environmental stewardship – enhanced through the Technology Innovation and Emissions Reduction system, internationally recognized methane emissions reduction framework and leadership on carbon capture, utilization and storage technology – and the opportunities are endless.

Few places in the world offer Alberta’s combination of talent, market access, security and resources. Our province has a young, skilled and productive workforce and is home to some of the best and brightest talent anywhere.
