Larissa Shasko is an internationally recognized expert in small modular reactor (SMR) engagement strategies and a leader in developing innovative methods of science communication. Larissa joined the Nuclear and Environment Division at Calian Group Ltd. in September 2024 where she works as an Analyst to support public engagement on SMR deployment across Canada. Larissa holds a Master of Public Policy Degree from the University of Regina and is in the final stages of completing her PhD of Public Policy at the University of Saskatchewan. Larissa is a Fellow of the OECD Nuclear Energy Agency’s NEST (Nuclear Education, Skills and Training) program and was also selected to attend the Nuclear Energy Agency’s inaugural Rising Stars workshop held at MIT in September 2023. She specializes in analyzing public perceptions of SMRs, navigating multiple and competing perspectives over clean energy options, addressing the impact of disinterest on uncertainty over innovative technologies among young people, developing STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math) education-based engagement methods, and designing innovative engagement strategies to help address age and gender barriers to participation in nuclear energy careers and policy discussions. Larissa currently resides in Regina, Saskatchewan.
