2024 Strategic Speakers

Paul Caetano is the Director of Cryptographic Research, Engagement and Standards at the Canadian Centre for Cyber Security, responsible for researching and evaluating cryptographic algorithms and protocols, providing cryptographic advice and guidance including preparations for the quantum threat to Cryptography, and ensuring the security and utility of cryptographic standards for Canada.

Prior to this role, Paul was in a variety of roles including the Director of Cryptographic Security and Systems Development, responsible for evaluating the security of cryptographic products, providing cryptographic advice and guidance, and modernizing the Government of Canada’s classified infrastructure; the Manager of Transparency and Disclosure; and a lead for Data Science Strategy at CSE.

Since joining CSE in 1990, Paul has served in a variety of positions across the organization starting as a mathematician conducting applied research on cryptography and data mining before moving into leadership positions within applied mathematical research and development area. He later led the team designing innovative secure capabilities such as for mobile devices.

Paul holds a Masters of Mathematics from the University of Waterloo. For hobbies, he studies archaeology and languages with a particular fascination for the decipherments of ancient scripts.
